A new braised-meats kitchen is worth the short drive north.
Chaoshan Braise, an authentic Chaoshan-style Chinese restaurant focused on slow-braised meats, is now open at 8530 SW Pfaffle St in Tigard, a quick drive from 22379 SW 107th Ave. It is one of the newest kitchens in the south metro, and it is already drawing diners who crave a style of Chinese cooking that few spots in the Portland area attempt.
Chaoshan Braise is that rare opening that fills a real niche. The small storefront near the Tigard-Sherwood border specializes in the braised-meat cooking of the Chaoshan region of coastal southern China: beef brisket, pork belly, and pork knuckle simmered for hours in a deeply seasoned soy-based stock, then served over rice or noodles. For anyone who lives near 22379 SW 107th Ave, it is a new reason to head north for lunch or an early dinner.
The Menu
What to order at Chaoshan Braise.
Braised beef brisket noodle soup
The signature bowl: wheat noodles in a rich mahogany broth topped with fork-tender, soy-braised beef brisket. It is the dish that puts a braising-focused kitchen like this one on the map, and the kind of warming bowl that fits a rainy Tualatin afternoon perfectly.
Braised pork belly rice bowl
Glossy, melt-soft pork belly over steamed rice with braised egg and greens, a hearty one-bowl meal that regulars order again and again. Pair it with a side of braised tofu, which soaks up the same seasoned stock beautifully.
Braised pork knuckle rice
A Classic Chaoshan-adjacent specialty: pork knuckle braised until the skin is silky and the meat pulls apart, served over rice. It is comfort food in the truest sense, and a strong choice for diners who want something beyond the usual teriyaki and pho circuit.

The Bigger Picture
Another sign of the south metro's dining momentum.
Chaoshan Braise joins a long run of new kitchens that opened around Tualatin this year, from Baguette Bros to Ham Ji Bak in Sherwood, All Blue, Super Chix, and more. Along with the sushi, teriyaki, and pho already on Tualatin's own side of town, it is more evidence that this corner of the Portland metro keeps getting a better and more interesting dining scene. For a full sweep of the current lineup, the fall dining scene update and the best-restaurants list are good places to start.
