The first weekend of November in Tualatin: book sales, tree planting, and Celtic music.

November 6-8 packs a full weekend into a small town: the Friends of the Library book sale, a volunteer tree planting along Saum Creek, a First Friday Ceili at Winona Grange, and a juried art show just across the line in Tigard, all minutes from 22379 SW 107th Ave.

November arrives quietly in Tualatin. The pumpkin patches close, the farmers markets have wrapped, and the calendar trades harvest festivals for library fundraisers, volunteer mornings, and the first holiday notes. It is also a great month to walk a neighborhood and see how a community lives in its off-season, something worth knowing before you buy.

Here is what is on the calendar for the first full weekend of November, with dates from the City of Tualatin, the Tualatin Public Library, and Winona Grange. The complete, always-updated list lives on the local events page.

Saturday, November 7

The busiest day of the weekend.

Friends of the Library Book Sale

Friday, November 6 (members preview 2-3 PM, public 3-6 PM) and Saturday, November 7, 10 AM-4 PM

The twice-yearly Friends of the Tualatin Library book sale fills the Community Room and lobby with gently used books, media, and more, with proceeds supporting library programs. Members preview first on Friday at 2 PM; the public joins at 3 PM. The year's best book-hunting morning in town.

Super Saturday: Harvest Tree craft

Saturday, November 7, 2-3 PM, library Makerspace

A free kids' craft for grades K-5 in the library Makerspace, where young makers build their own harvest tree to take home. A natural pairing with the book sale happening one floor away, and a good reason to bring the whole family downtown.

Put Down Roots: Saum Creek planting

Saturday, November 7, 9 AM-12 PM, Atfalati Park

A volunteer morning with Friends of Trees planting native trees and shrubs along Saum Creek to restore riparian habitat. Tools, gloves, and guidance are provided, and the city's Put Down Roots series runs through the fall. A rewarding way to give back before the rain sets in.

Art in the Burbs

Saturday-Sunday, November 7-8, Tigard High School

A juried fine-art and craft show filling Tigard High School with more than 90 artists: painters, potters, jewelers, and fiber artists. The biggest curated artisan show of the month near Tualatin, and an easy pairing with a Bridgeport Village visit on the way home.

Sherwood Wine Festival

Saturday, November 7, 12-7 PM, Red Berry Barn Greenhouse

A day of Willamette Valley wineries, local breweries, and cideries poured under the covered greenhouse of the Red Berry Barn, with food vendors on site and proceeds benefiting the Rotary Club of Sherwood. Tickets are $20 for adults 21 and up, and the details are in the festival guide.

Timberwolves playoffs, if they qualify

OSAA 6A state playoffs open November 6-7

Tualatin High School closed the regular season Friday, October 30 with Senior Night against Tigard. If the Timberwolves qualify, the OSAA 6A state playoffs open the weekend of November 6-7; schedules and tickets post on the athletics page.

Friday night

First Friday Ceili at Winona Grange.

On Friday, November 6, the historic Winona Grange hall on SW Seneca Street hosts the monthly First Friday Ceili Mor, a live Irish music and dance session that runs 7:30 to 11:00 PM with doors at 7:15. All dances are taught and called, no experience or partner is required, and admission is $15. It is one of the most welcoming nights on the Tualatin calendar, and the full Celtic lineup, including the Dallahan concert on November 12, is in the Winona Grange music guide.

Earlier in the week, Tuesday, November 3 is Election Day: Oregon votes by mail, and ballots are due by 8:00 PM at the drop boxes outside City Hall and the library's drive-thru. The election guide has the details. And all month long, the library runs DINOvember, a month of dino crafts, movies, and scavenger hunts for younger readers.
