Mushroom festival, one tank of gas away.
The Mount Pisgah Mushroom Festival returns Sunday, October 25, and Tualatin's Juanita Pohl Center is running a chartered day trip from 9 AM to 4:30 PM. It is an easy, all-ages autumn adventure from the front door of 22379 SW 107th Ave.
The Mount Pisgah Mushroom Festival is the arboretum's biggest annual fundraiser, presented with Lane Community College and the Cascade Mycological Society. On festival day, a giant mushroom exhibit spreads hundreds of locally collected species across display tables, experts help visitors sort edible from poisonous at the identification table, and naturalists lead guided walks through the oak woodland around the arboretum.
For Tualatin residents, the easy way in is the city's day trip, organized by the Juanita Pohl Center for Sunday, October 25, departing at 9 AM and returning around 4:30 PM. The festival itself runs 10 AM to 5 PM at Mount Pisgah Arboretum, 34901 Frank Parrish Rd in Eugene.
What to Expect
A full day of forest finds.
The mushroom exhibit
Hundreds of species collected by volunteers fill the display tables, laid out with the scientific know-how of the Cascade Mycological Society. Stroll the rows, compare caps and gills, and learn which Oregon fungi are worth eating and which are strictly admire-from-afar.
Guided walks and talks
Local naturalists lead guided nature walks through the arboretum's trails, while short educational talks cover the basics of Pacific Northwest mushrooms. Add live music, food and craft vendors, and the festival's signature kids' activities.
Cider pressing and hayrides
Kids can press their own apple cider and pile onto hayrides between visits to the vendor stalls, writes the arboretum. It is the rare fall festival that entertains a family and teaches a little mycology at the same time.
Getting There
Let the bus do the driving.
Eugene sits roughly two hours south of Tualatin, which turns the festival into a full day behind the wheel. The Juanita Pohl Center's day trip removes the driving headache: board in Tualatin at 9 AM, spend the day at the festival, and arrive back around 4:30 PM.
Festival admission tickets go on sale Friday, September 25, 2026, and arboretum members get in free. Seats on the Tualatin bus trip are limited and registration runs through the city, so call the Juanita Pohl Center or check the city's event page early to lock in a spot.
Plan the Weekend
Make it an October weekend.
The mushroom festival lands in the thick of Tualatin's own October calendar. The weekend after, the West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta fills the Lake of the Commons, and the citywide Pumpkin Hunt keeps hiding 250 mini pumpkins in parks through Halloween. Between the festival in Eugene and the regatta at home, October is the month Tualatin families look forward to all year.
Keep an eye on the Tualatin events calendar for registration links and the full fall lineup, and check the arboretum's own festival page for exact ticket and member details.
