Tualatin's Community Spirit: Volunteering, Neighbors, and How People Connect.
What makes a neighborhood a community? In Tualatin, it is the people who show up to plant trees along Saum Creek, gather at the farmers market on Friday evenings, and volunteer their time to make this city a wonderful place to live. Here is a look at the volunteer opportunities, local organizations, and community traditions that bring Tualatin together.
When you live in Tualatin, you quickly notice something about the people here. They show up. They volunteer at the library, plant trees along the river, organize the community market at the historic Winona Grange, and turn out in force for the annual Giant Pumpkin Regatta. Tualatin is the kind of place where neighbors know each other by name and where a sense of shared responsibility makes the community stronger for everyone.
If you are considering a move to Tualatin or have recently arrived, getting involved is one of the best ways to feel at home. Here are the volunteer opportunities, community organizations, and annual traditions that define Tualatin's community spirit.

Volunteer opportunities in Tualatin.
The City of Tualatin offers a wide range of volunteer programs that make it easy to contribute to the community. The annual Put Down Roots Tualatin event with Friends of Trees, held each fall and spring, invites residents to plant native trees and shrubs along the city's waterways. The next one is November 7 at Atfalati Park, where volunteers will work to restore riparian habitat along Saum Creek. Tools, gloves, and guidance are all provided.
Other volunteer opportunities include park clean-ups, the Community Impact Week each October, the Tualatin Public Library's volunteer program, and the Tualatin Historical Society, which welcomes volunteers to help preserve and share the city's history at the Heritage Center.

West Coast Giant Pumpkin Regatta
Every October, thousands gather at Lake of the Commons to watch costumed competitors paddle giant hollowed-out pumpkins across the water. Now in its 22nd year, this volunteer-driven festival is the ultimate expression of Tualatin's quirky, community-first spirit. The 2026 edition takes place October 18, and dozens of volunteers make it happen.
Winona Grange Gathering Market
The historic Winona Grange at 8340 SW Seneca St hosts a community gathering market on select Sundays year-round. Local farmers, food artisans, and craft makers set up stalls while live music fills the air. It is a place where neighbors linger, kids run on the grass, and the old-fashioned sense of community feels alive and well.
Tualatin Farmers Market
Friday evenings from June through early September at Lake of the Commons. More than just a place to buy produce, the market is a weekly community ritual. Neighbors spread blankets on the lawn, listen to live music, and catch up with friends as the sun sets over the lake. It is the heart of summer in Tualatin.
