A Newcomer's Guide to Tualatin.

Thinking of making the move to Tualatin? Here is everything newcomers should know about this welcoming Washington County community, from neighborhoods and schools to commuting, parks, dining, and the lifestyle that makes Tualatin a great place to call home.

Relocating to a new city is both exciting and overwhelming. There are neighborhoods to explore, schools to research, commutes to test, and a thousand small questions about daily life. As an Oregon native with more than 20 years in real estate, I have helped hundreds of families through this process. Tualatin consistently ranks as one of the Portland metro area's most appealing suburbs for good reason, and I want to share what I have learned.

Whether you are moving from across the country or across town, this guide will help you get oriented and excited about everything Tualatin has to offer.

Getting Around

Location and Commute.

Tualatin's location is one of its greatest assets. Situated at the crossroads of I-5 and I-205 in Washington County, the city offers exceptional access to the entire Portland metro area. Downtown Portland is about 20 minutes north. Beaverton and Hillsboro, home to major tech employers including Nike and Intel, are within a 15 to 25-minute drive. Wilsonville and the broader Willamette Valley lie just to the south.

For those who prefer public transit, the WES Commuter Rail connects Tualatin to Beaverton and Wilsonville, with connections to MAX light rail and bus service through TriMet. The Tualatin WES station is a convenient option for commuters heading to the Sunset Corridor or downtown Portland.

Shopping and daily errands are equally convenient. Bridgeport Village, one of the Portland area's premier shopping and dining destinations, is just a few minutes east. The Nyberg Street corridor offers big-box retailers, grocery stores, restaurants, and services of every kind.
