Where to go ice skating near Tualatin this winter.
Tualatin has no rink of its own, but two of the metro area's best options sit within an easy drive: year-round public skate at Sherwood Ice Arena, minutes away, and the seasonal outdoor Winter Village rink in Hillsboro. Here is what to know for winter 2026-27.
When the rain settles in and the days grow short, ice skating is one of the best ways to get kids moving and make the most of winter evenings. From 22379 SW 107th Ave, the closest rink is in Sherwood, about 10 minutes west, and the region's signature seasonal rink, the Winter Village at Orenco Station in Hillsboro, returns for its 2026-27 run starting the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
Details below come from the rinks' official pages and the City of Hillsboro; session times and prices can shift with holidays and school breaks, so check each venue's site before you head out. Your full community calendar lives on the local events page.
Closest to home
Sherwood Ice Arena: year-round public skate.
The rink
Sherwood Ice Arena at 20407 SW Borchers Dr, part of the Winterhawks Ice Center complex, offers public skate sessions most days of the week all year long, plus skate school, hockey, and figure skating. Public skate admission is $25 per skater with skate rental included, kids 5 and under skate free with a paying adult, and group rates drop as your party grows. Session times are posted on the arena's weekly online schedule because they change around holidays and school breaks.
Why Sherwood first
It is the nearest rink to 22379 SW 107th Ave, roughly a 10-minute drive, and it runs all winter, which means a rainy-weekend skate is always available without planning around a seasonal calendar. Rentals are included in admission, so newcomers can simply show up, lace up, and take a few laps. Check sherwoodicearena.com for the week's public skate times before you go.
Sherwood Ice Arena ScheduleThe seasonal option
Winter Village at Orenco Station.
Hillsboro's outdoor ice rink returns to Jerry Willey Plaza at Orenco Station for winter 2026-27, and the City of Hillsboro lists this season's run as November 29, 2026 through January 10, 2027. It is the metro's festive outdoor skate: a covered plaza rink with holiday lights, warm drinks nearby, and holiday market vendors in the surrounding streets.
Sessions and pricing
Thursdays-Sundays, 10 AM-8 PM; one-hour sessions at 10, 11:30, 1, 2:30, 4, 5:30, and 7
Admission runs about $16 to $19 per skater including skate rental. There are no advance tickets: sessions are first come, first served at roughly 45 skaters each, so arrive 15 minutes early to claim a spot. The rink is closed December 24-25 and January 1, and on the final day the last session starts at 5:30 PM.
Make a day of it
Orenco Station sits about 25 minutes from Tualatin with easy parking at the plaza, and the neighborhood's shops and eateries turn an hour on the ice into an afternoon outing. Pair a skate with lunch on the Orenco main street, or time it for the evening sessions when the plaza lights are at their best. Geographic note: this is the one seasonal outdoor rink in the near metro, so if you want skate-under-the-sky photos, this is the place.
City of Hillsboro Winter EventsMore ways to skate
Beyond the two main rinks.
The Winterhawks Ice Center in Beaverton is another year-round indoor rink about 20 minutes from Tualatin, a handy backup for lessons and open sessions when the Sherwood schedule is full. Closer to home, Tualatin's own Winter Break Camp at the Van Raden Community Center (December 21-23 and 28-31, 2026, for grades 1-6) includes ice skating outings among its crafts, games, and holiday movies, a nice way to squeeze in a skate without a separate trip.
Whatever rink you choose, dress in layers, bring thick socks, and book the first session of the day if you want the quietest ice. And with the Tualatin Light Parades rolling December 4-6 and the Red Sled Market open through December 24, a skate makes a natural bookend to a full day of local holiday fun.
