Building Tualatin's Future.
The city is studying a new civic center that pairs consolidated city offices with a larger public library. Two sites are on the table, and the project is still in the community-input phase. Here is what neighbors should know.
Under the banner "Building Tualatin's Future," the city has spent years studying how to house its next-generation library and civic services together. The current library at 18878 SW Martinazzi Ave, rebuilt in 2016, does its job well, but city leaders see room to grow: a combined project could add roughly 6,500 square feet of library space while consolidating city offices in one modern building.
For anyone considering a move to the home at 22379 SW 107th Ave, the discussion is worth following. Big civic investments say a lot about a community's confidence in its future, and the two sites under study sketch two very different versions of what downtown Tualatin could become.
The Site Alternatives
Two locations, two different downtowns.
The first option is a two-story civic center next to the Tualatin Police Department, with about 30,290 square feet of city offices and the 6,500-square-foot library expansion. It keeps the city campus where it is today and adds library space without changing the character of the Commons.
The second is a three-story civic center on the Tualatin Commons itself: about 30,450 square feet of city offices, a larger block of roughly 13,220 square feet of civic-center rental space for community gatherings, and the same library expansion. Either way, the math works: both alternatives meet the city's projected space needs, so the decision comes down to where Tualatin wants its civic heart to live.
What It Means for Neighbors
A bigger library, still in planning.
The project is still in the planning and community-input phase. No construction timeline or funding decision has been set, and the public process continues through bodies like the Library Advisory Committee, which keeps meeting through 2026 and published its 2025 annual report in August.
The Commons option, in particular, connects to the separate downtown revitalization work around the Lake at the Commons, so the neighborhood conversation is bigger than one building. Between the expanded library, refreshed downtown plans, and the new housing rising at Basalt Creek, Tualatin is clearly investing in its next chapter.
